Everyone but us is catching an airport shuttle at 10:30 so we joined them in the lobby for a last round of visiting. We need to do trips together with some regularity.
Some lobby features.
We had lunch at the Barefoot Bar down by the pool. It seems a good bit hotter today but there is almost always a breeze at this bar. Mary wandered around taking photos of the grounds, beach and pool while we waited for food.
Right after lunch we headed up to the Lobby to wait for our transfer to Arenal. He was right on time and we were on the road by 1:30.
Fortunately,
the route took us through Liberia where we were able get a photo of a Las Vegas
inspired casino sign.
And some artists had turned the dull, grey concrete pillars holding up an elevated roadway into works of art.
As we moved farther inland we began to climb and the vegetation became greener and more lush.
Eventually we sighted Volcano Arenal…very much out by itself and dominating the horizon. We spotted it several times as we drove along. And it got bigger and bigger. What an incredible mountain.
The drive also took us along Lake Arenal. The mountains around the lake are lush and beautiful.
We saw lone coatis several times along the route. However, we also came across a large band of them…and them seemed to know tourist vehicles could be a source of food. Our driver had rice cakes, which he said was ok to give them. So we were able to get good photos of them as they milled around the van and snacked on rice cakes.
We are staying at the Hotel Arenal Manoa and we have a large veranda and great views of the volcano.
We had only a short walk to the restaurant for dinner. It was an excellent dinner. Mary’s short ribs were as soft as butter and we both had the chocolate molten lava cake for dessert. It was a tasty dessert but not at all molten.
